The day is here! It’s finally time to introduce a new caregiver to Dad. This can bring you and your family a wide range of emotions: anxiety, relief, and uncertainty to name a few. These feelings are common and perfectly normal. A little advance planning and preparation for this important milestone will help ensure a smooth and comfortable transition for all.
It’s important to remember that caregivers from Golden Harmony are professionally trained and experienced in caring for older adults at home. Their primary goal is to make life better for the individuals they serve. They do not need or expect to be entertained, something which is surprisingly often a concern for care receivers.
How Can You Help Encourage a Successful Caregiving Bond?
There are actions you can take when you introduce a new caregiver to your parent to start the relationship off on the right foot. For example:
- Feel free to provide as many details as you would like on how to best care for your parent. If they like their sandwiches a certain way, always watch a particular game show at 10 am, and enjoy a walk to visit with friends after breakfast, let the caregiver know.
- Offer the caregiver a tour of your home, pointing out any specific items such as the closet with cleaning supplies, emergency contact information, medicine cabinet, etc.
- Remember that your feedback is extremely important – both positive and negative. Connect with our office and let us know about anything the caregiver is doing especially well, or anything you’d like to see done differently. We are happy when you’re happy! We work tirelessly to be sure each individual’s needs are fully met, and that includes incorporating changes when necessary.
Golden Harmony’s Caregivers
Our goal is to help you have peace of mind knowing that a loved one is receiving the best caregiving services possible. Each of our caregivers has been extensively background checked, interviewed, and trained. They’re also carefully matched to each individual in their care based on likes, dislikes, personality type, and more. Each member of our team is someone we would completely trust caring for our own senior loved ones. And if for any reason, at any time, you’d like to request a different caregiver, we will honor that request; no questions asked.
