A Bond Beyond Care: Colleen & Jessica’s Story

At Golden Harmony, we believe caregiving is more than just assistance—it’s about building real connections. That’s exactly what happened when Colleen and Jessica met.

Born and raised in Raleigh, Jessica spent 30 years in the workforce, including 10 years with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and 22 years at NC State in Purchasing. One of her most significant career moments came during Hurricane Fran, when she managed Falls Lake Dam, working around the clock for six days to prevent a catastrophic overflow.

After facing health challenges, Jessica and her son considered assisted living but decided that staying at home was the best choice. That’s when they turned to Golden Harmony, and she was paired with Colleen. Their first visit together? A trip to Jersey Mike’s, where they instantly bonded over their love of good food.

A Friendship Built on Care and Connection

Over time, their relationship has grown into something special. They enjoy doing jigsaw puzzles, taking walks, and often find themselves singing along to ‘80s and ‘90s hits. But beyond the fun, Colleen’s dedication and intuition mean the world to Jessica.

“She knows what I need before I even ask,” Jessica shares. Whether it’s staying late after a long doctor’s appointment or adjusting her schedule to accommodate Jessica’s needs, Colleen always goes the extra mile. “She will do whatever it takes to take good care of me.”

Outside of work, Colleen enjoys attending her church’s temple, going to lunch with friends, and listening to music. She’s been married for 37 years and has three grown children—a firefighter-in-training and two social workers.

The Power of True Companionship

Jessica credits her strength to years of hard work and raising her son as a single mother. When asked about the key to strong relationships, she says: “Truly listen to people and understand their perspective.”

At Golden Harmony, we see every day how meaningful companionship changes lives. For Colleen and Jessica, what started as a caregiving relationship has become a genuine friendship—built on trust, laughter, and care.
